The A2 motorway is Switzerland's main alpine artery, connecting Basel to Chiasso through the Alps. On a three-kilometre stretch near the village of Rodi in Ticino, contractor Otto Scerri SA is carrying out major reconstruction works: replacing the central reservation and renewing the drainage between the two lanes. The task is performed by a Hitachi wheeled excavator from the ZX-W series.

Otto Scerri SA from Bellinzona is one of the key players in the Ticino construction market. It is very safe and stable, either while travelling — with a heavy load — or operating with the boom at short or long reach and a full bucket. I am very happy with how it moves, as well as its speed and strength — it's all good."

The planned service life for the machine at Otto Scerri is up to 10,000 operating hours. Throughout this period, the company is supported by the official Hitachi dealer: monthly ConSite monitoring reports, next-day spare parts delivery and round-the-clock technical support.

Highway reconstruction is a task for which a crawler machine is not optimal: constant travel on asphalt, work alongside barriers, the need to reposition quickly as traffic management changes.
